Using Youtube!

Something really fun about getting the word out about the show is that there are no limits on how to get the word out!

You can even use the internet!

This first link is our promo video! It's a short, fun video that gives a quick synopsis of the show!
It's super entertaining, but also gets all the points across, and encourages people to come to the show!

In this next link is a local rapper who is friends with our friend in publicity, Christine! She was able to ask him to do this promo video in which he made a video on his channel about coming to see the show to encourage some of his fans to come and watch!

Updating the Set

I realized that you haven't really gotten a good look at the set since it was like the picture below, just a bunch of eight foot platforms with nothing else on them!

Since then we have been able to add walls to the platforms!
And added some staircases too!

Set dressing is also really important for the stage in an early time period because the actor need to rehearse with the couches there so they can change their blocking if needed!

A second floor has also been added!
With two little rooms on the second floor!

There is a front door, and also a trapped door!
This set has a lot of fun little hidden tricks to it!

The set has been updated since these pictures, but to see the final set you have to come to the show!

I promise you will be blown away by how amazing this set looks!

A lot of people worked very hard on this set, some people had to leave classes so they could finish the set before opening day!

Sand-Which Boards!

So the Thursday and Friday shows are about to begin! That means the Chantilly theater production of "You Can't Take It With You" is almost done! So exciting, but sad!

Even though a lot of tickets have already been bought online ( chantillyhsdrama.com tickets are $8 online!) Publicity needs to push the show until the last minute!

Sand which boards are a really fun and easy way of getting the show out there!

The key with Sand which boards is you have to write minimal information, but in really big letters so people can read them from their cars!

You should do both sides of the boards so that people driving on either side of the road can read the board and hear about the show!

The minimal information includes the show title, the upcoming dates and the ticket price!

Super fun!

Costumes

A very visual part of the show that is one of my personal favorites is the costumes!

It's very exciting to see the characters wear fancy dresses, and things someone wouldn't normally wear in real life, or at any day in your high school!

Since the play doesn't take place in modern day the costumes aren't going to consist of jeans and t-shirts. The costume people had to go find these outfits by looking through the high loft and by searching thrift shops!

Since the play is double casted some of the characters wear the same thing!

The outfits can be different depending on what the character is doing in the scene, maybe they are going out to a special party so they have to dress formally  or maybe they are just staying home, and just need a house dress.

Some times the costumes don't look so good at first, and that is why the costume people start working early on the costumes so that they have everything ready before the week of the show when the cast has to perform in their dress rehearsals!

"It's a blast. All the girls working on costumes are amazing and extremely talented! Costumes can be kind of difficult because you are tying to get the look the director wants but you don't always seem eye to eye, but you have to be flexible and go with the flow!" -Lindsay

Car Decorations

Some of the publicity girls had a really fun idea of decorating cars to promote the show!

They thought ti would be a fun activity on a Saturday rehearsal!

A lot of the cast members loved the idea and couldn't wait to get their cars decorated!

They had to write the show date and the CHS drama website so that the people driving by would know where t look for more info!

Some of the cast member got really creative with how they wrote their advisement!

They even added a little humor into it by adding the surprised Patrick! It's super funny, and will definitely catch peoples eyes! Great ideas!

Hair and Make-Up

Another one of the departments in this show is the Hair and Make-Up crew.

For this show we have a lot of fun hair styles!

One of the most fun, yet challenging part of hair and make up is that you have to think of hair styles that fit with the era of the show.
It takes a lot of research to find out what people wore their hair like back in the 1930s!

Also most of the times you have an idea, but it doesn't work with the persons hair texture, which is why you have to start playing with peoples hair early!

Boys hair is usually a lot easier to deal with!
You just need to make sure that it's been pulled back so it won't get in his face while on stage!

Most of the hair styles that the hair and make up girls are doing are braids and curls.
There are so many different types of curls and braids that no one in the show really has the same hair style!

Above is a picture of Aubrey who is head for hair and make up.
"I have just always loved doing my own hair, and I love learning new things to do with hair and then perfecting them! I use to just practice on myself, but it's a lot easier when I can practice on some one else first!" She says.

What Does Publicity Do?

Even thought the audience will only see the actors on the stage, they may not realize that there is so much that goes on back stage and in the weeks preparing for the show!

Lets look into what one of the groups does for the preparation of the show!

This is the publicity group!
The whole point of being in publicity is to advertise the show, and to get more people from the community to come see the show!

The girls in Publicity have to get the head shots done for everyone in the cast!
That's a total of 35 head shots, but they have to take several per actor,
and sometimes they need to retake the photos!
That adds up to a lot of pictures!

There is actually a new group of girls taking over the publicity group!
This is a photo of the older girls teaching the new girls how to make the program for the show!

"I really love doing publicity! It's a lot of hard work, but all of the girls have become really good friends and we love knowing that it'll pay off by the time the show comes around!"
-Hannah, Head of Publicity
